Aliena

Aliena is a Singapore-based space technology company that develops low-power propulsion systems suitable for small satellites and constellations and deployed at low earth orbits (LEO) or very-low earth orbits (VLEO).

Problem

  • Inefficient propulsion systems: The space industry is rapidly launching constellations–groups of small satellites in low-earth orbit. Yet existing propulsion systems, designed for larger satellites, don’t scale well to smaller ones, making them bulky and inefficient.
  • Power consumption issues: These systems struggle to balance power consumption, leading to costly solutions.
  • Increased operational costs: Inefficient propulsion designs increase the financial burden on satellite missions and hinder operational efficiency.

Solution

  • Purpose-built propulsion systems: Aliena develops propulsion systems specifically designed for small satellites, addressing inefficiencies of larger satellite systems.
  • Self-ignition mode: Their thrusters feature a self-ignition mode optimised for nanosatellites, ensuring efficient performance with minimal power consumption.
  • Dual mode: They offer versatile dual mode for microsatellites, operating under low power (<100W).
  • Compact design: The compact design and efficient power usage make the propulsion systems ideal for low-earth or very low-earth orbit missions, positioning Aliena as a leading provider in the small satellite market.
